Groundwork & Young Horse Day – 7 July 2019 @ AMT Equestrian Services
Jul 7 @ 9:00 am – 4:00 pm

Sunday 7 July 2019 from 9 am to 4.00 pm

Join us for a day of horsemanship learning focusing on effective groundwork with your horse.

Having a horse that leads well and has good ground manners is paramount for safety and to build a quality relationship with your horse. Most problems start on the ground and having a solid foundation on the ground with your horse will allow you to progress much more safely and easier under saddle. Groundwork not only builds a horse’s confidence and softness it is also vital to help the horse to use its body in a bio-mechanically correct way in order to encourage self-collection and lifetime soundness.

Whether you have a young horse who would benefit from a day out, learning in a safe environment or an older horse with whom you wish to build a better foundation or solve some problems.

If you want to build your own confidence and work on your relationship with you horse, groundwork is the prefect avenue!

This day will focus on safety and working on achieving a light and soft connection with your horse on the ground. We will work on common groundwork horsemanship exercises as well as touch on how to help your horse to build the correct muscles to assist in self-collection and healthy biomechanic motion. The way we teach is based on exercises and principles taught by Tom Dorrence, Buck Brannaman, Stephen Halfpenny and Manolo Mendez.

We will introduce you to strengthening exercises that can be taught from the ground using simple techniques.

There will also be an opportunity to work on de-sensitising your horse to ‘scary’ objects such as tarps, poles, large balls and a cow on wheels! This is especially useful for young horses.

Participant places are limited to ensure everyone receives plenty of time and attention. Participants will be split into 2 groups and each group will participate in two 1.5-2 hour sessions throughout the day.

Kids School Holiday Camp @ AMT Equestrian
Jul 16 – Jul 17 all-day
Kids School Holiday Camp @ AMT Equestrian

Join us for a fun Kids Horsemanship Camp on 16 and 17 July 2019

The Camp involves 2 full days of horsemanship coaching for your son or daughter and their horse in a safe and fun environment with other like minded kids.

We will spend time on the ground building a solid foundation in a way that is both educational with safety first but also fun for both kids and the horses. There will be some one-on-one sessions as well as working together as a group.

For the kids who are ready to ride we will have fun challenges under saddle that will help them develop their feel and communication with their horse, including using obstacles, poles and horse soccer!

When the horses need a break, the kids will learn some basic horse first aid principles and tips from our resident vet as well as some general horse care and feeding tips and ideas!

There is an option to sleep-over for those that want to, which will of course involve a horsie movie and popcorn!

Places are limited to 6 kids to ensure everyone receives plenty of time and attention.

(Suitable for ages 12 to 16. Younger ages considered if parents stay to assist).

Introduction to the Hackamore and Bitless riding @ AMT Equestrian
Jul 21 all-day
Introduction to the Hackamore and Bitless riding @ AMT Equestrian

Introduction to the Hackamore and Bitless riding

  • Is your horse 100% happy in its bridle?
  • Do you feel like your communication with your horse could be better?
  • Have you been curious about riding without a bit but don’t know if it’s safe?
  • Are you worried you wouldn’t be able to control your horse bitless?
  • Are you curious about trying a hackamore with your horse but don’t know where or how to start?
  • Want to learn about fitting and shaping a hackamore for your horse?
  • Keen to try different bitless arrangements with your horse?

If you answered YES to any of these questions then this one day workshop will answer them for you!

We have seen the amazing benefits in our and our client’s horses and our ability as riders by learning to ride in the hackamore. Time and again we see huge changes in the way horses move and their attitude and relaxation during training when we change our equipment.

We are not ‘anti-bit’ by any means by we are passionate about sharing different ways to achieve relaxed communication with our horses.

This day is limited to 6 ridden places to ensure everyone receives plenty of guidance and on-on-one attention in a small group.

Auditors are welcome to watch and learn and bring their questions.

The day will involve theory, demos and riding.
